My Leader told me it's... well, a bit of everything that contributes to the nova rankings. The collecting, voting, our... "adventure" last week all count. It isn't just killing.
[ hm. ]
It was something his group found last week. It was a letter? Or a diary entry, maybe?
... There was a pretty big change in the rankings this week, wasn't there? [ she's... frowning though. a little confusion and something like anxiety spikes in her emotions for a moment, before calming down in waves just before she speaks: ] Goat's team. It ... was Goat's team, wasn't it? They were last the week before...?
[ hm. ]
Let me think. It was ... more like a diary, yes. It was talking about participants, and whoever was writing it taking off their mask in front of one of them? But parts of it were blocked out so it wasn't very specific.
[ that relief increases. ] Right. That's... right. Does that mean someone on goat's team was either very gifted at gathering nova this week, or... [ killed two people and yeeted one into space? ]
Factual. More than anything, it was just... facts. The writer was pleased with how things were going?
[Let's not think about someone from goat team killing two people and yeeting another into space.]
Pleased... [Well, he's not exactly sure how to feel. There's no fear or worry, and there's no anger really. There's... curiosity? Confusion.] I'm not sure if I like how that may imply this has happened before.
Unless... one of them has taken off their mask for someone here?
[He frowns down at the food has has recently elected not to be hungry enough to eat anymore yet.]
They could be. Someone told me the leaders can hear the conversations those on their team are having with other people. But that leaders cannot hear the conversations those on their team have with other leaders.
There was a date on there, but it was blocked out.
[ helpful, huh? ]
... [ oh. weird. ] I could ask my leader at some point, I suppose. I think we get along well, but whether they'll tell me something like that I don't know.
[ i need a "questions to ask the npcs that are actually useful" guide, stat. ]
You said with other people though. Or is it just conversations that their team specifically is having? Or if a Fox talks to a Wolf, their leaders can both hear what they say?
I'm not sure of the exact details since I haven't asked myself.
[He pauses thoughtfully.]
For example, if I were on Rabbit's team, Rabbit could hear any conversations I have with anyone else--except for conversations I have with the leaders. If I talk to someone on Wolf's team, then Wolf and Rabbit would know our conversation.
[Let's... not mention... what he had done to sort of find half of this out, ahem..........]
There's a couple of people I've been teaching some to. It's just really basic things, I'm only a beginner myself, but--
[ she shrugs. ]
It can get a message across without talking. And I don't mean that in a "send secret messages for plotting purposes" way, I'd have to talk to teach you so we can't hide that part of it. But...
Every advantage is useful, right? So... being able to flag something up as dangerous, or suspicious in a trial without catching everyone's attention might not be a bad thing. And, well... when Sora and I were exploring those labs, I realised he couldn't hear well enough to hear the creature moving around. If it had been properly hunting us, I might not have been able to tell him to be on guard quickly enough.
There's a big difference between getting in his hearing range and telling him, and just-- [ she makes a sharp motion with her hands. ]
[ i am now going to picture blanca sat with two small teens learning sign language and the picture is amazing. ]
If they can, they can. It's... not like I want to cause problems, and definitely not for my leader. But I can't think of a downside to having more than one way to get a message across.
... Also, two people sustained damage to one of their senses last week. Maybe we need alternatives for worse case scenarios.
[ well. he gets a laugh out of her. ]
Well, if you're promising to be good, then I don't see an issue with it.

You mean our emotions, or something else? [He glances up.] What did he show you?
no subject
[ hm. ]
It was something his group found last week. It was a letter? Or a diary entry, maybe?
no subject
[There's curiosity that peaks.]
A diary page...? Do you remember what it said?
no subject
[ hm. ]
Let me think. It was ... more like a diary, yes. It was talking about participants, and whoever was writing it taking off their mask in front of one of them? But parts of it were blocked out so it wasn't very specific.

[Hm indeed.]
I see. Did it sound... distressed? Relieved? Could you tell?
no subject
Factual. More than anything, it was just... facts. The writer was pleased with how things were going?

I don't think we should latch onto that theory too much. We don't know enough. But we shouldn't dismiss it completely either?
[ ... ] Well. Yes. That's a possibility.
... If they have they're lying to the others about it though.

[Thanks a lot, dates.]
I think your leader would be able to tell you more than you think, if you ask. Maybe not so much about themselves, of course.
no subject
[ hm.
anna i just ask them what their favourite colour is and scream into the void, c'mon. ]
I'm not afraid to ask them. If that's what you mean.
no subject
[becks please]
I know.

Right. So our everything is an open book... but that means we can use it to our advantage as well?
no subject
If we can find a way, yes. But we also have to be careful not to discuss plans against them. They would know how to prepare.
Or worse, who to tell people to get rid of.
no subject
... Right. So if someone suddenly decided to start a rebellion, it would be easy to figure out who the instigators were.
[ ... ]
...
Hey, Blanca. Have you ever learned sign language?
no subject
[Both of his brows rise, and he feels... curious?]
I'm not sure if the signs I know would be considered sign language. [There is almost a laugh in his voice.] I can't say I know more than one or two.
Why?
no subject
[ she shrugs. ]

You aren't wrong. I had been trying to consider a way to communicate without giving away a lot of information.
It could work. I don't know if they can only hear us, or if they can also see us, but... it is worth a shot as one of our few options.
Would you teach me, too, Miss Alex? I promise I'll be a good student.
[He is teasing.]

I'd be honored then. It wouldn't be a bad thing to learn anyway.
...How did you start learning yourself?
no subject
Alright. When's a good time to start?
Oh. Someone I live with is deaf. I wanted to learn as well, so I taught myself when I had the chance.
no subject
Anytime. The sooner, the better perhaps. [Both brows rise.] Oh?
One of your "boys"?
