The knife is what was inside of the cannon. I don't know if it was planted, or used as self defense... so I took it. I intended to wait to make sure it wasn't used as a distraction. I'm not sure-- [He laughs humorlessly.] --how long I can hide it without looking guilty.

I don't know if the gun was used as a weapon or not, only that I saw it being thrown overboard. Hadn't a few others received guns last time? Not regular ones, but...?
